he Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is a standardized, multiple-choice examination designed to assess the examinee”s problem solving, critical thinking, writing skills, and knowledge of science concepts and principles prerequisite to the study of medicine. Scores are reported in Verbal Reasoning, Physical Sciences, Writing Sample, and Biological Sciences. Medical colleges consider MCAT exam scores as part of their admission process.

Almost all U.S. medical schools require applicants to submit MCAT exam scores. Many schools do not accept MCAT exam scores that are more than three years old.

Princeton, N.J. (May 19, 2009) —

Harvard Business School (HBS) announced today that it will accept GRE® General Test scores for admission into all of its business school programs. In March, the business school began accepting GRE scores for admission into its 2+2 Program.

Today’s announcement by Harvard Business School follows a steady stream of business schools signing on to accept GRE scores, for a total that now exceeds 220 MBA programs. This is an increase from the GRE Program’s announcement last month that more than 190 business schools, including five of the top 10 global MBA programs, now accepted the GRE test.

“We are pleased to widen our requirements to give all MBA candidates the option of submitting results from either the GRE or GMAT® exam,” said Deirdre Leopold, HBS Managing Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, in a release issued this morning. “Since many HBS applicants are also considering graduate programs besides the MBA, there is now no need for them to take the GMAT if they have already taken the GRE. We believe that both the GMAT and the GRE meet our expectations of what a standardized test can tell us about a candidate”s ability to thrive in our MBA Program.”

Princeton, N.J. (June 17, 2010) —

Educational Testing Service (ETS) announced a bold move today that is likely to capture the interest of the more than 675,000 GRE® test takers worldwide. With the introduction of the GRE® revised General Test, planned for August 2011, ETS will offer a limited-time 50-percent discount on the test fee to all individuals who take the test between August 1 and September 30, 2011.

The announcement appeared on the GRE website when ETS revealed a completely new test-taker section designed to educate potential graduate and business school students about the GRE revised General Test. “We know students are going to find the overall testing experience better with the introduction of the GRE revised General Test,” says David G. Payne, VP and COO for College and Graduate Programs at ETS. “The questions more closely reflect the kind of thinking they”ll need to do in graduate and business school, and the new test taker-friendly navigation features allow them to use more of their traditional test-taking strategies. These are really big changes that will appeal to test takers. In addition to these enhancements, we think the 50-percent discount will encourage more students to take the GRE revised General Test sooner, so students themselves can tell other students about their positive experiences.”

The GRE revised General Test will deliver many new features when it is introduced in 2011. Some of the new things test takers will notice:

More questions featuring real-life scenarios to better reflect the kind of thinking students will do in today”s demanding graduate and business school programs

Less reliance on vocabulary out of context, more emphasis on reading — and no antonyms or analogies

Many new navigation features, including the ability to skip questions and go back to them later within a section for a better test-taking experience

New answer types, such as filling in a number or providing more than one response when asked, so students can better demonstrate what they know

An on-screen calculator for the Quantitative Reasoning section*

With GRE® test volumes at an all-time high, following a record-breaking year in 2009, ETS officials say the timing is good. “We want to use this time, when people are talking about the benefits of the GRE revised General Test, to give more students an additional incentive to pursue their graduate school dreams,” says Payne. “We know the test-taker community has a reputation for ”cheering each other on.” So, instead of being nervous about the changes, the 50-percent discount will hopefully get more students to consider graduate and business school once they hear their peers talk about the test taker-friendly features.”

In addition to the 50-percent discount, test takers around the world will find that the GRE revised General Test delivers other good news as well. Starting in August 2011, the split-test administration will be eliminated in China (including Hong Kong), Korea and Taiwan, and will be replaced with computer-based testing one to two times per month. Candidates testing in those regions will be able to take the Verbal, Quantitative and Analytical Writing sections on computer, all on the same day. “We are so pleased to be able to provide increased access to students in those regions as well as an overall better testing experience,” says Payne. “This change is especially important since a rapidly growing number of students from Asia are taking the GRE General Test.”

Individuals around the  world who take the GRE revised General Test in August or September 2011  will receive score reports starting in November 2011, to allow for the  statistical work needed when launching a new test. Normal score  reporting of 10 – 15 days will resume in December 2011. ETS advises that  any student who needs test scores before November 2011 should take the  current GRE General Test.;

“We are expecting the GRE revised General Test to be quite popular when it is introduced,” says Payne. “Registration for the GRE revised General Test will open on March 15, 2011, so individuals interested in receiving the 50-percent discount should register early for a testing date between August 1 and September 30, 2011, to ensure they can take advantage of the special limited-time offer. This is big news for test takers, so we expect word to spread quickly.”

Global Business School Exam to Introduce Innovative New Questions in June 2012

June 25, 2010

San Diego, California—The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) will add an innovative new section designed to measure people’s ability to evaluate information from multiple sources. The new integrated reasoning section, scheduled to be introduced in June 2012, will provide business schools with a window into how prospective students respond to the kinds of complex challenges they will encounter as managers in today’s information-rich business environment.

The coming enhancements to the GMAT exam stem from multiple surveys of business school faculty conducted during the past four years by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), owners of the exam. GMAC solicits input from faculty as a regular part of its commitment to continuously improving the GMAT exam. The Council unveiled the changes to the exam here today at its Annual Industry Conference, the largest gathering of graduate business school professionals in the world.

watch?v=O5UvUmrc96o&feature=player_embedded

The integrated reasoning portion of the GMAT will capitalize on innovations in technology and assessments and feature questions that further enhance the validity of the test. These questions include information from multiple sources, such as charts, graphs, and spreadsheets. Examinees will be asked to analyze information, draw conclusions and discern relationships between data points, just as they must do in business school.

watch?v=x2WiKHxvIHA&feature=player_embedded

“The new integrated reasoning section of the GMAT will be a microcosm of today’s b-school classroom,” said Dave Wilson, president and CEO of GMAC. “These questions will provide critical intelligence to schools about the ability of prospective students to make sound decisions by evaluating, assimilating or extrapolating data.”

watch?v=ubNKNkqeJyI&feature=player_embedded

The overall length of the GMAT exam (three and a half hours) will not change. The new integrated reasoning section will be 30 minutes long and replace one of two essays that are part of the GMAT’s analytical writing section. Admissions officers have stated and GMAC research has shown that performance on the essays is closely aligned, making a single essay acceptable for predicting performance.

The GMAT exam’s verbal and quantitative sections will not change. As a result, when the new section is introduced in June 2012, tests will be scored on the same 200–800 scale used today. Test takers will receive a separate score for the essay—as they do now—and another distinct score on the new integrated reasoning section.

watch?v=PloGNkngoWA&feature=player_embedded
